World Series Game 7 Attracts 51 Million Audience Members Across the US, Canadian and Japan Markets.

The exciting extended contest that saw the Dodgers beat the Toronto Blue Jays by one run drew a aggregate 51 million viewers across the US, Canadian, and Japan markets. MLB stated this marks the highest-rated Fall Classic finale after the 1991 edition contest featuring the Minnesota Twins and Braves.

Television Ratings Details

Last Saturday’s epic game averaged 27.33M viewers on Fox networks, Fox Deportes and their digital services. According to Nielsen, it was the second highest-rated broadcast of the week.

It also is the most-watched World Series matchup since the 2017 Game 7 between the Los Angeles Dodgers and Astros, which drew over 29 million. This marks a 16% improvement over the last Game 7 between the Nationals and Astros, which drew 23.19M.

In the weekly rankings, Game 6 ranked 4th, Game 4 was seventh, the fifth game was 8th, and the third game finished in 13th place.

International Audience Numbers

In Canada, the game averaged 11.6 million viewers on the Sportsnet network and the French-language TVA Sports channel. This was the highest-rated English program in Canada since the 2010 Vancouver Winter Olympics.

In the Japanese market, where the final contest started at 9 p.m. in the local time zone, it drew 12M. This came after last Friday’s Game 6 – in which Fall Classic Most Valuable Player Yamamoto allowed a single run in six frames – averaged 13.1 million spectators, making it the most-watched World Series game on a single network in the country.

Series Averages and Patterns

The entire seven-game series recorded over 15.7 million viewers on the Fox network, a 2% increase from last year’s Dodgers versus Yankees series. This represents the initial instance since 2015 and ‘16 that the Fall Classic has recorded audience growth for two consecutive seasons.

Including the Game 1 telecast on the Univision network, the total American average was over 16 million. The overall Fall Classic average in Japan was 9.7 million and 8.1 million in Canada.

The complete playoffs on Fox and its sister channels recorded 8.09M viewers, an eight percent increase over last year and the network’s best playoff ratings after the 2017 season.

Major League Baseball reported that the World Series was broadcast in 203 countries and territories by 44 broadcasting partners in 16 different tongues.
